Stilted Conversation

Updated: Feb 22, 2019

We're dancing in circles, you and I

One too fearful, the other too shy

Silence is stifling, so we'll struggle to fill

with meaningless words echoing still

Treading cautiously, as if on ice

Biting back words for unbinding ties

Giving in, the fire is gone

Resignation, restraint and extinguished moths

Holding on, to burning straws

I'll take what we have now over nothing at all
